Philip Whelton: Arklow
How often do you hear the phrase "I’m bored," during the summer months? If you are around young people, then I guarantee you hear it quite a lot. We have heard this man
times during the summer months from those we work with who are too young to get summer work. Because school is out, they have nothing to do. A few days ago while Susan and I were having coffee in Tesco’s some girls came over to us and stayed chatting for ages. They were just wandering around town with nothing to do. It has struck us that there is a need here for a place for young people to go during the school holidays, especially the first few weeks they are off school, where they can meet friends, play sports, do crafts or some community service. Pray with us for God’s direction as to what can be done for us to meet this type of need in the future, as the possibilities are endless..
News from Arklow
At Wednesday Bible Club, we have prizes of a few chocolate bars for children who have behaved well each week. Recently, a girl wanted to say something but then shook her head and changed her mind. Finally, at the end of Club when we all get together for our closing part, this girl whispered to her friend who then passed on what she wanted to say earlier: "Although we love chocolate bars, this Club is all about the Bible – it’s not just about getting chocolate!" What an encouragement that even young children can value what is the better thing! Pray that God’s Word will take root in these young lives
