Irish Mission: Kevin Hardgaden - Maynooth
Working as part of the leadership team of the new Presbyterian Church in Maynooth, Kevin's primary role is in encouraging and equipping the members of MCC as they get involved in the evangelistic and social witness aspects of the congregation's ministry. He is a local, born and raised in nearby Leixlip but he fell in love with Maynooth while studying computer science at the university here. It was during that time that he realised that following Jesus didn't mean being simply religious and got involved in working that out in the church and out of it.
In Maynooth he serves the congregation by leading events that help people grow in their faith, helping people share that faith lovingly with others and by helping to identify needs within the town and developing responses.
The part he is most enthusiastic about is probably when he gets to relate to the many university students in town or when he gets a chance to explain the surprising relevance of the Bible to today's world.
Other Information:
Kevin is leads one of MCC's regular events: FORUM. It's a place where people are invited to come and talk about the big topics in a safe and secure environment. This month we are looking at how faith and politics intervene. Should faith be a private thing? Does faith inevitably lead to fundamentalism?
