Carlow Presbyterian Church
The county of Carlow is part of the province of Leinster in SE Ireland and is in fact the smallest inland county on the island. The town of Carlow is situated approximately 50 miles SW of Dublin on the banks of the river Barrow.
Presbyterianism has been in Carlow since the second half of the 17th century. The present Presbyterian Church was opened for worship on 12th September 1819. Over the years, like many churches, Carlow Presbyterian Church has known periods of rise and decline. The encouraging thing is that in recent years there have been some positive developments.
Anybody is welcome to attend the service of worship. A typical service is a time when people gather to praise God, to pray and listen to the Bible being read, taught and applied to everyday life. It is an opportunity for people to meet with God and with one another.
On a typical Sunday there would be an average of 40 plus people (including children) in attendance at worship. These people come from a whole range of church backgrounds. This reflects the fact that while the church is Presbyterian in ethos and belief, it is able to accommodate people who would not describe themselves as 'Presbyterian' but would be happier with the term 'Christian'.
Carlow Presbyterian Church seeks to be a place where the presence of God is experienced and the Word of God is heard. We believe passionately in the relevance of the Bible in our modern world and the absolute necessity of people coming into a living and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We seek to build each other up in the faith and we seek to reach out to others with the faith.
We are thankful to God for others in different churches in this area who share these evangelical principles and see it as part of our role to promote genuine and appropriate co-operation for the advance of Christ's Kingdom.
